DBS checks for charities are common because many organisations are required to implement safeguarding measures.
Employees or volunteers working for a charity will be eligible for a DBS check, which can be Basic, Standard, or Enhanced. However, rather than the charity as a whole, a person’s eligibility will be determined by the nature of their specific role.
An Enhanced DBS check is required for anyone who works closely with a vulnerable group (children or adults). Those who work in a charity shop, on the other hand, may only be required to undergo a Basic DBS check.
